Instructions for Printable Mad Libs
There are two types of printable MadLibs on this site: A) Funny Party Games for kids ages 10 through adult and B) Learning games that help students identify and use parts of speech.

Instructions for Type A – Funny Mad Lib Party Games

  • Only the host/hostess sees a copy of the story before the game begins.
  • The host cuts apart the word list boxes and hands them out so that each person has at least one. All the boxes must be used.
  • Each person writes something in his/her word box that matches the description.
  • The host then reads the story aloud, pausing each time he comes to a blank. He calls out the number of the blank. The person with the matching number reads what he’s written to add to the story. The host may want to write down the words that are added to the story and keep the story as a treasured memento of the party.
  • The LAUGHS begin!

Instructions for Type B – Mad Lib Learning Games

  • Be sure your child knows the parts of speech used in each story, listed at the top of the page.
  • Let your child’s imagination run free as he/she completes the story.
  • Ask your child to read the completed story aloud to you.
  • Encourage the child to draw a picture on the back to go with the story.
